The Department of Psychology’s Doctoral Program (DP) was established with the Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ/τ. Β’ 6496/31-12-21). The Department of Psychology offers a Doctoral Program in Psychology (Level 8, National Qualifications Framework). The doctoral degree and diploma are awarded upon successful completion of the Program, including the successful defense of a full-length dissertation.
The Doctoral Program (DP) of the Department of Psychology was updated and submitted for approval to the Senate of the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM) following a review and recommendation by the Quality Assurance Unit of the Institution. The Senate of UoWM approved the DP (Session No. 221/25-11-2024). The DP of the Department of Psychology was established with Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ τ.Β’ 6690/10-12-2024).
The DP of the Department of Psychology offers third-cycle Doctoral Studies with a minimum duration of four years and 180 ECTS. To obtain the Doctoral Diploma in Psychology, the writing and defense of the dissertation before a seven-member committee (90 ECTS) is required, along with a series of other obligations as described in the Study Guide and the Program’s Regulations. The language of the DP can be Greek or English. The Doctoral Program can also grant Industrial Doctorates and Doctorates with co-supervision upon the signing of a special cooperation protocol with another institution abroad.
Scientific Field
The scientific field of the Department is categorized within internationally established academic fields of Higher Education, as defined by the international classification of scientific fields in UNESCO (Field 031).
This scientific field includes the study of human behavior, cognitive processes, and related social, emotional, and cognitive phenomena. Educational programs in psychology cover the teaching of fundamental principles regarding human perception, cognitive functions, emotional development, behavior, as well as the application of psychology in clinical, social, and organizational contexts.
The DP of the Department of Psychology emphasizes the further development of the science of Psychology through research in key areas such as clinical psychology, neuropsychology, developmental psychology, and social psychology, as well as in cutting-edge fields and research areas. Through the program, the Department aims to further knowledge production, publish research conducted in the Department in international journals and conferences, and contribute to research in Psychology.
