The primary educational purpose of the Doctoral Program (DP) is to deepen the knowledge of doctoral candidates through advanced-level educational and research activities concerning the scientific principles that govern the field of Psychology. Through these activities, it offers high-level knowledge, critical perception, and skills that enable them to conduct high-level research that meets the needs of academia, the job market, and society.

Among the main objectives of the DP and the research conducted within its framework are the development of research skills in doctoral students, the contribution to expanding the field of psychology through original research, the preparation of students for future academic careers, and the application of psychological knowledge in practical fields such as clinical psychology, counselling, organizational psychology, and other areas that require high-level specialization. Finally, another aim of the DP is interdisciplinary collaboration, working with other scientific disciplines and integrating various approaches to solve complex research problems. The goal is for the results of the research conducted within the DP to disseminate both within the global academic community and the local society, contributing to the multi-dimensional evolution and well-being of the social whole.

Another significant goal of the DP of the Department of Psychology is the development and implementation of modern teaching methods, as well as the continuous evaluation of its students, with the ultimate aim of optimizing their performance. Doctoral candidates, through their active participation in the educational process at the undergraduate level under the guidance of the faculty members of the Department, are expected to contribute to the high level of academic knowledge provided by the Department.

Finally, the DP also aims at the development and provision of modern facilities and laboratories for its students and researchers, following technological advancements, while continuously striving to enhance cooperation among students, researchers, and faculty members of the department, with the ultimate goal of strengthening, deepening, and promoting the academic and research work conducted within the DP, thereby enhancing the visibility of both the Department of Psychology and the University of Western Macedonia.
